4 Tips for Helping Your Child to Develop Their Own Unique Style

Unfortunately, what is considered to be a normal child in today's society is being just like every other child in the nation. Doing the same things, having the same interests, and wearing the same clothing as everyone else define being normal in the public eye. As most parents subscribe to this belief, we are raising a generation of followers Aquaman absolutely no individuality. Trend setting for the future is all but extinct, as we are teaching our children that the trends are what everyone else is doing. It is time that we turn the tables on this "clone" attitude and teach or children to be the leaders, the trendsetters for tomorrow. There are a number of very simple methods in doing this, but they all require starting early. Once a child's personality is ingrained, they will spend the rest of their life being what they have been taught to be.

Start off by being a guide, not a controller. For example, if you are at the park with your baby or toddler, don't control them. Keep them safe, of course, but act as a guide, not an owner. If the rest of the children are playing in the sand box and your child wants to play in the grass, let them. Do not make them play where you want them as well simply because it is the norm, or because that is where the rest of the kids are playing.

Next, when buying the products you need to raise them, such as baby bottles or strollers, find something different. Instead of equipment with pictures of purple dinosaurs and caras welln characters, find stuff with scenic pictures, or panoramic scenes of countryside, anything that will spur the child's imagination beyond the norm. Different colors are good as well.

The same holds true for your baby's room. Everyone has the same old pink, white, or baby blue room that is easy on the eyes and makes you and your baby want to go to sleep. Consider this. Paint a mural on the baby's ceiling depicting a trail leading off into a forest, or perhaps a lighthouse with the ocean in the background. Something that is far more intricate than that of dull pink, white, or blue.

Lastly, there is the concept of the clothing. This may be the most important part of the equation, as it is what your child and the other children will notice first. Being the baby boomer generation or later, we are all found of a more punk type of look, a pop culture feel. We like this because it is different. It isn't the average nine to five Hippies appearance. It Doctor Who in one word, original. This is the same route we should take with our children. Dress them in punk pop culture band shirts, such as that of The Ramones, Billy Idol, or Sublime. As they begin to grow, you will begin to notice other children telling their parents that they want a shirt like your child has, simply because it is cool.

This is where the trend setting truly begins, where your child will become different and original, a leader instead of a mere follower. The great leaders, celebrities, and gurus of the future will be those that are taught from a young age that it is okay to take a chance, be original, and wander off the occasional beaten path.
